Certificado de Recorde Mundial

Abílio Couto bateu o recorde mundial do Canal da Mancha em 29 de setembro de 1959, no sentido Inglaterra - França, o chamado "Hard Way". Seu tempo de 12 hrs 49 min abaixo em muito o tempo do inglês Gerald Fosberg, que era de 13 hrs 33 min nadados em 1957. Era a primeira vez que Abílio nadava o Hard Way ( caminho difícil ) no Canal da Mancha, tornando-se o primeiro brasileiro a atravessar tanto da França para a Inglaterra ( Easy Way) como da Inglaterra para a França ( Hard Way). A primeira travessia do mundo neste sentido foi do Inglês Matthew Webb com 21 hrs 45min em 1875. Abílio após 84 anos da primeira travessia era apenas o 15 do mundo a completar a com sucesso a mesma. E até a época apenas a Inglaterra ( com Webb, Burgess, Blower,Barnie, Rising, Mickman, Pickering e Fosberg) EUA ( Sullivan, Chadwick )Índia ( Mihir Sen) e Brasil (Abílio Couto) haviam completado aquela que é considerada por todos os especialistas a mais difícil travessia do mundo.

Esta foto abaixo mostra o certificado de recorde mundial que o Channel Swimming Association entregou á Abílio por inermédio do prefeito da cidade inglesa de Dover e dos executivos do CSA.

Abílio Couto broke the world record of the English Channel on September 29, 1959, in the way England - France, called " Hard Way ". Its time of 12 hrs 49 min below in a lot English Gerald Fosberg's time, that was of 13 hrs 33 min swimed in 1957. It was the first time that Abílio swimed Hard Way, becoming the first Brazilian to cross so much of France to England (Easy Way) as of England to France (Hard Way). The first crossing of the world in this sense belonged to English Matthew Webb with 21 hrs 45min in 1875. Abílio after 84 years of the first crossing was just the 15 of the world to complete the with success the same. And until 1959 just England (with Webb, Burgess, Blower,Barnie, Rising, Mickman, Pickering and Fosberg) USA (Sullivan, Chadwick )Índia (Mihir Sen) and Brazil (Abílio Couto) had completed that that is considered by all the specialists the most difficult crossing of the world.
